24 Hour Charity Netball Match Raises Money and Awareness

What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours... as the song goes and that's exactly what Jade Gerrard and her colleagues are wanting to do, make a difference to friend and colleague Debbie Chandley and others like her.

Jade and co, Debbie's Darlings organised a 24 hour netball marathon in Sheffield on Saturday 13 August. The match which started on the 12th at 2pm involved over 200 people and raised in excess of £3,500 and it's still rising. During the game an impressive 1362 goals were scored, a light hearted game but still competitive from what we saw, especially in the last hour.

Debbie Chandley is part of the furniture at England Netball and is well known across the Yorkshire region as a key member of the netball family. Debbie has been the Regional Coordinator at England Netball for 17 years and is a highly valued and loved member of the team.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Debbie is bravely battling breast cancer. As her netball family, we felt it was important to support Debbie through this difficult time. If you know Debbie well you will know she thrives on supporting others, and she was overwhelmed to hear of our plan to fundraise in her honour.

Debbie has selected a cancer charity close to her heart, Penny Brohn, who provide holistic wrap around care for cancer patients. They have provided Debbie with a safe space, knowledge and support over the last few months which have proved invaluable to her physical and mental well-being.
